Bear Canyon Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge

Albuquerque, New Mexico

City of Albuquerque, Public Art Program

Lighting gives language to an alternative transportation bridge across space and time. Illumination conducts a dialogue between multiple voices in the landscape: six lanes of whizzing traffic, a fragment of arroyo still teeming with life and ancient memory, the grand spectacle of mountain and sky, and the bridge’s engineered bones of metal and mesh. Programmable, energy-efficient lighting suggests a dream of water, petroglyph “travel line,” and Albuquerque’s visionary urban planning.
