Lighting brings to the surface the mystery and excitement of ocean life, while embodying the Aquarium’s ecological mission through the use of low- or no-energy sources. At night a mesh of animated LEDS mimics the bioluminescent display of jelly fish in a magical reference to some of the seas most beautiful inhabitants. During the day, radiant disks imbedded in the scrim reflect sunlight to create a dynamic experience of underwater light on nearby boardwalks and streets. Enhancing the edges of the Aquarium is an “urban sand fence,” which is coated with photon–emitting crystals that “feed” on sunlight during the day and emit a striking glow at night.
