Minimal yet effective lighting was called for in this community-operated bakery in which 50% of the building relies on natural light for some portion of its illumination. Efficient metal-halide lamps throughout reduce the energy required. A three-level light shaft allows natural light into the interior of the bakery during the day and is softly illuminated at night, highlighting the exterior design.
