Committing to My Vision

Honoring my original vision of an experimental, imaginative, risk-taking lighting design practice that responds to contemporary challenges in public space after dark, I am deepening my exploration of how nighttime public space can reconnect people to nature and to each other, and how people experience belonging — to a landscape, to a community — after dark. It’s a renewed vision for ecologically-sensitive, dignity-affirming design.

This means expanding my practice to consider how lighting impacts plant life and ground-level habitat and finding the poetry in habitat-sensitive design. It means exploring how lighting public art shapes the experience of place, and it means delving into lighting’s role to support memorials and sites of conscience with the sensitivity they deserve.

To bring this vision to life, I am cultivating a team that adds expertise in horticulture, habitat resilience, public art, and place-making — bringing those skills into direct conversation with the landscape lighting design expertise you already know from us. The team supports my curiosity to push beyond the edges of what exists and take on unique challenges in places that really make a difference.

We are supported by a strategic alliance with Lux Collaborative. After thirteen years with Tillett Lighting, Jeanne Choi joins Lux as Design Director where she will continue to guide our large-scale landscape lighting work while growing Lux Collaborative’s design practice. This alliance provides continuity for our clients and collaborators while enabling me to focus more deeply on my new direction.  I am excited for Jeanne as she begins her next chapter, and I look forward to our continued collaborations.

Linnaea Tillett Lighting Design Associates is taking on bespoke projects: small-scale cultural and habitat-sensitive landscapes and master plans; outdoor sculpture and public art; and temporary and permanent memorials, contemplative spaces, and sites of conscience.
