Peavey Plaza, on the National Register of Historic Places, was designed by M. Paul Friedberg in 1975. After years of disrepair, Peavey Plaza needed extensive preservation, repair and reconstruction of historic elements throughout the plaza while, at the same time, required significant upgrades to ensure ADA compliance.

The challenge for us as lighting designers was to replicate the form, quantity and placement of the original, 70s era, large-scaled lighting fixtures while incorporating low-maintenance, programmable technology suitable for multiple events.

The City of Minneapolis was awarded the 2019 Cultural Landscape Foundation Stewardship Excellence Award for the revitalization project, noting that the project “demonstrated that design innovation and historic preservation go hand-in-glove.”
